Recycling
Program
A new was reduction program for the City of Rising Sun was started in
September 1993.
The
program was instituted to meet future requirements of state-mandated
reduction of waste sent to landfills. Grass clippings and brush will
not be picked up by Rumpke Inc. Residents are urged to begin composting
yard wastes.
Residents
pay a $2.50 pick up charge, plus 75 cents for special Rising Sun trash
bags for non-recyclable waste. Other costs of the waste reduction
program are split between Rumpke for trash pickup and the Southeastern
Indiana Solid Waste District for recycling.
The bags are available at Tandy’s IGA, Rising Sun BP, Rising
Sun Shell and at the Rising Sun Municipal Utility office.
Trash
pickup is ever Wednesday, and recyclable items are collected the first
and third Wednesday monthly. The city has a regular large item pickup
that allows for items too large for the Rising Sun trash bags to be
picked up by Rumpke, Stickers.($3) are required on each large item and
available at the utility. Pickup is every Wednesday.
Recyclable
items should be empty, dry and free of food residue. Remove all caps
and neck rings from all containers. Labels are ok on glass and plastic,
but should be removed from cans.
Recyclables should be set out in separate disposable containers. There
should be containers for plastic, cans, glass and newspaper.
Changes
have included the recycling of magazines, catalogs and corrugated
cardboard. Household batteries are recyclable by taking them to the
utility office.
Other items to be recycled:

glass, mirrors, ceramics or drinking glasses.
