Arts as Economics!

It's time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.... To relax and smell the coffee, sample the wine, and take a break form everyday life. Once a month the pedestrian-friendly streets of Historic Downtown Rising Sun, Indiana, transform into a rolling block party during our unique First Friday event. Each celebration, the entertainment shifts and multiplies as sculptors, potters and artists serve as a back-drop for this ongoing festival of art perusal and appreciation. Local bands perform throughout the evening, and on special occasions the streets turn into canvasses for children (young and old) to decorate with chalk. First Friday is a stage for local galleries and Rising Sun's vital Downtown cultural scene. It's a place to meet friends new and old, and rejoice in the preservation and innovation of an historical neighborhood. In this land of suburbs and strip malls, visitors come from near and far to people-watch, sample new restaurants and enjoy our quaint small town!  SEE VIDEO

Since it began in 2000, First Friday has only continued to grow. It is now considered the premier monthly arts event in Southeastern Indiana. Down on Main Street,  you will find, inviting little shops like the whimsical offerings of the Persimmon Tree antique store, one-of-a-kind galleries, and the working artists' studios around town. While many people love to walk the neighborhood, the Grand Victoria Casino also kindly provides a shuttle bus from their establishment that make rounds throughout the area and make pick ups every 15 minutes throughout the evening. And no matter how you decide to get around, you can always expect a diverse crowd, great art, live music, and plenty of surprises!
